Hi,
if you used the right-of-way loading feature. You can check the number of tiles in memory in the information of the footprint.
Touch the "lists" button in the cache toolbar.
Select the frame you just loaded.
At the very top you will have three number.
To be sure that the application has in memory what you requested, the second number must be equal to the third.
You can also ask the application to recount the tiles present in memory by touching the "scan" button.
You also have to make sure that you have asked to load all the scales you wanted.
Hello,
How can I tell if the maps have downloaded onto my iphone ? I've purchased the map and want to make sure I have it in case of no phone service. Thanks

Hi Rob,
If you don't have a 3d button it's probably because you are using the iOS version. On iPhone you get the 3D with a 2 fingers double tap. The French manual page should Google translate in globish English to help for more details. Don't you see a translate button on top of the page in a web browser ?
To mesure slope, you should use the "mesure tool". By placing the two end-point where you wish you'll see a slope indication and altitude delta.
Hi All,
Looking for some help, I have been using the app for a year now and love it, I have been told about using it in 3d mode and using it to measure slope angle to help with planning ski tours, But I can figure how to get it in to 3d mode or to get the slope angles,
I have looked on the UK manuel and it says there is a 3d button I don't have one.
any help appreciated
cheers Rob

Hi,
Just triple-tap on the screen to return to a fixed display.
Hello - I'm new to iPhiGéNie and have triggered somehow map tilting on my iPhone - the map I've downloaded keeps twisting in the frame. How do I restore the original orientation ?
Thanks for your helpMike
<<Does top google button offers a decent translation in German ?>>
Not really. It's more googlish than german. :-)
Thanks for the answer !
@isartrails
If you do not want tracking, waypoint, and "beacon" feature, you don't need the Vmax optional module. You will probably want to buy the optional provisional cache function if you wish more comfort in managing cache.
The Géoportail subscription for twonav is roughly the same feature as iPhiGéNie in a different taste and UI. Both competitor applications are reselling the same service from the French Géoportail servers.
Yes you'll be able to download maps in advance for offline use. And No you can't outsource them to remote data space. This is specifically forbidden by Géoportail license agreement.
Hi,
I am from Germany, but not so keen to ask for a german translation how iPhiGéNie works. :-)
As far as I have understood, it is an online based maps service, which I have to buy with an annual registering fee.
Several questions indeed are not clearly answered on the first view :
* does it only work on iPhone/iPad, or is it available for Android smartphones, too ?
* is it only an mobile application or can it be used also on desktop computers and Macs ?
* how does "map management" work ? - Do I have to choose map-tiles on the little screen of the mobile device or can this be done on a bigger desktop remote computer via an interface programm (like iTunes or similar) ?
* once choosen tiles will remain in the devices memory/harddisc space (cache) ? (to avoid connection costs when I am abroad in foreign countries).
* how "big" is data space of maps ? for example : the whole island of La Reunion in scale 1:25000 and 1:100000. (I own an iPhone with only 16GB, but have only left a few GB data space on it, because of other GPS applications using also big map data space (Topo Swiss, GPS-Tracks.com, TwoNav, ecc.)
* again : is it possible to organize downloaded maps in order to users needs ?
Sharing this maps (copy-paste) with my desktop computer or other mobile devices (obviously only mine registered accounts).
I am not very happy with Apples data restrictions on the iPhone/iPad and how the iOS doesn't let me know what's happening inside the system.
I want to remain the "master" of my device and for this reason I feel less patronized by other OS (knowing well that even Google only want's my best... ;-)
I had an iPad, which looks fine, but switched to a Galaxy Tab, which offers me more possibilities. (Okay, that's a personal decision.)
To finish my topic : I have a good working Sportiva GPS device for registering my adventures. I want to use a tablet computer (iPad or else) as a map showing device only without the need of tracking traces.
Or do you think that a Geoportail-subscription for TwoNav is the better solution for me ?
I want to have the possibility to download the maps in advance and to manage them whenever I want (between tablet device and outsourced data space ; HD or remote PC).
I'd like to avoid dependency on WiFi or GSM connections.
Thanks for illuminating the situation !
Bye, isartrails
Thanks Steve.
The Google translate feature here is not from "clever Apple". It is setup in this site design. While far from perfect it does the job.
Hi Michael et al,
I'm using this whilst visiting friends in France, absolutely fantastic app !
My iPad somehow has set up google translate for me on this forum and when accessing the manual - clever buggers at Apple eh ! Therefore I can read the whole lot in understandable - not 100% correct, but hey ! - English. Therefore no need to spend time translating it all, carry on the good work with other countries maps. Esp. Ordnance survey - though I do use Memory Maps app it's no where as good as this, and it's damn expensive ! And NZ mapping please.
Well done and thanks for a super product at a reasonable price and novel manner of implementation.
Steve Brown
I certainly wish to do it in the future.
But this is not that simple. There are commercial/contract issues to sort, not the easiest nor the fastest part of the process. Then there are technical considerations : available format for maps, geographical projection, etc. This is not only a matter of maps availability and could implies a thorough rethink of iPhiGéNie core design.
When iPhiGéNie is mature enough, there will be time to dig into that challenge.
The concept of iPhiGéNie is brilliant. Can it be extended to other countries ? - e.g. Ordnance Survey UK maps ?
Yes, this is correct. Ensure to leave the data roaming disabled (default setting). Use wifi when available to load tiles.
Notice : If you set data roaming ON, and load cache by wifi, you'll not incurs data charge either, but there is still a risk while panning or zooming to reach unavailable tiles and then resort to data transfer. Be careful in this case. Any time a square on screen is red, it is a loading tile. So it cost something if on phone network.
Alternatively, if you are still at home, you can preload a bunch of place before leaving. But this is not so easy because you may end up loading bunch of unnecessary tiles and miss some others useful. Daily wifi (hotel or such) is the best way to go.
Also, you'll not be able to search for place without data roaming. You still can do your search with wifi and keep interesting places as markers.
If I have an iPhone in America and travel to France, I assume I can download the tiles to the phone and run the application with data roaming off. I just need a gps signal correct ? I want to make sure I don't incur a lot of data charges for map loading.
Oui, je comprends, et merci de votre assistance !
Bonne chance !
Michael
Hi Michael,
I'm sorry that I had no time to translate the manuel yet, being overwhelmed by iPhiGéNie development.
The very largest part of iPhiGéNie users are French since iGN maps are very well known here but overlooked by foreigners.
So here is my proposal : ask here, in this forum section, whatever question you want, trying to order them in by priority. Simple question can be grouped in a thread. For more specific or detailed request, you may open a separate thread to help other English readers to find their way.
I'll do my best to answer as quickly as possible.
Feel free to use English, this is the place for it.
